Have you spent time with young ones lately?

We made it across this great country. Not only have we been able to explore the town and new surroundings, we have also been able to reconnect with family. This past few days have been filled with the joy and innocense of new life. My cousin and his wife have two small children. The youngest is 18 months and the oldest will turn 3 in a few months. The beauty and innocense of new life is such a reminder of how much our surroundings impact who we become.
Yesterday, my son and I were able to spend time with these two cutie pies. It was only 3 hours, and it seemed like a full day. The energy and curiosity is abundant. Sitting and reading a book to each of them, separately, was such a precious time that I haven't experienced in a very long time. Learning and mimicing the sounds that animals and birds make reminded us that we are taught the very basics from the start. After 1.5 years, a little one can repeat the sounds of an owl, "who, who."
After being removed from this phase of life for some 20 + years, I have been reminded of the routine that is repeated every day. The essentials of food and water/milk/juice help these little ones grow. As one of my friends recently reminded me, all we really need in this life time to sustain us is food and water. This fact simplifies life and highlights the basics. Our needs are very simple.
The blessings flow when we have love, hope and joy sprinkled in with the basic needs being met. Sitting with one of God's small creations curled up in my lap combined all these special gifts that God allows us to receive. The gift of life can be so beautiful and full of love, hope and joy. God allows us to feel these sweet emotions when He gifts us life.
How much greater the gift of eternal life will be...
Luke 18: 29- 30
"'Truly I tell you,' Jesus said to them,
no one who has left home or wife
or brothers or sisters or parents or children
for the sake of the kingdom of God
will fail to receive many times as much
in this age, and in the age to come
eternal life."
