11/13/24- Basic Needs

Do you believe you are getting all that you need every day?

Our needs are actually very basic, as we touched on yesterday. We simply need water and bread to sustain life. We don't need a new outfit, a new jacket, a raise, a pedicure, a new car, a bathroom remodel, or a new house. We need bread and water. That's it!

Near the end of His life when Jesus was with His disciples and the multitude of individuals who had witnessed His many miracles in Jerusalem, He tried to simplify this fact to those who followed Him. Jesus spoke in a metaphor to all of these people who surrounded Him. He revealed to them that He was the bread of life and the blood of life, and that they would be reminded of Him when they eat His body (bread), and drink His blood (wine). They did not know at this time that He would be dying on the cross. After Jesus revealed this to those who followed Him, most left Him, even after they had witnessed the countless miracles He performed. They could not grasp the concept of eating His body and drinking His blood.

We have the gift of the Bible which has recorded all this history. Imagine being an individual some 2000 years ago hearing this revealed to you. During the last supper, Jesus revealed this to His disciples who had come to believe that He was the Son of God. He broke bread and said, "this is my body, given for you". He then poured the wine, distributed it to His disciples and said, "this is my blood." We now know that the bread and wine represent His sacrifice that He made for everyone who believes in Him. To this day, the church offers communion, "the body,"bread, and "the blood," wine, in remembrance of Jesus.

Jesus was sent as a living sacrifice for all of our sins. In that time, the best of a herd, was the sacrifice made to God. Jesus came to replace that form of sacrifice by giving His life. He went to the cross, after He was sentenced to death. There was no fault or blame that could be found to place on Him. Yet, He went to the cross out of love for each and every one of us.

We don't like to think about it, but there is an eternal life. The Bible, which is God spoken, reveals that there is a heaven and a hell. In the eternal life, we will either be reunited with God after this life passes away or we will endure eternal turmoil. We need to do our part to secure eternal life.

Believing that Jesus meets our needs of bread and water will allow our needs to be met for eternity. Seek to know and grow closer to the One who promises eternal life, and frees us from all our wrong doings. Each and every one of us have sinned. It is in our human make up. God knew this, and has provided a way out, because He loves us.

1 John 4:19

"We have loved because He first loved us."
