2/22/24- Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking

Matthew7: 7-8 “ Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

We all know people who have it all figured out. I myself am somebody who likes to help others. I probably try to help too much. I don't want someone to experience pain or suffering. Although, I am finally learning that people must endure struggle to thrive.

I do believe that if we ask for help God does provide. He provides for us in various forms. We must seek and pursue. He won't pull us from our comfort zone.

In my late twenties, I was pregnant with our first child. My husband had been without pay for some time and was looking for employment opportunities. This time of living off one income, placed a lot of stress on us. I often wondered how we would pay the bills. My interior decorating business which was in its infancy, was feeding us.

One morning while swimming at the YMCA, I saw a woman swimming in the lane next to me wearing a UNC swim cap. It was very similar to the one I was wearing. At one point we both were on the wall together, and I asked her if she had swum at UNC. I learned that she was a swimmer and had graduated the year prior to my starting.

As we learned more about each other, I shared that I had my own decorating business and that my husband was looking for a job in his field. She was starting a remodel on her home and asked me if I was interested in working with her. She also told me that her husband, a former athlete at UNC, was in the same field as my husband and was looking to hire someone.

As I knocked on her door that day, my prayers had been answered. God put me and Sarah in the pool together that day. We are still friends and are currently in a Bible study together. Our husbands worked together for over 20 years.

Are you willing to listen? Are you willing to change? Sometimes it’s good to sit with these questions. Just like it’s good to sit in God’s word for guidance.
