5/7/24- Walking with Light

What do you have control over today?

The only real thing we have control over today is choice. We can choose to work toward the good of God’s people and ourselves. We can choose what comes out of our mouths(not always controllable), what our actions are, and whether we will choose to walk in the light.

Walking in the light versus walking in the darkness is a complete contrast. With light we can see the right path to avoid bumping into something and causing pain to our bodies or to others. Light can help guide us throughout the day.

Four days ago I was walking in a crowded area with obstacles and a lot of people. I had on my sunglasses with bifocal lenses that obstruct my vision below my waist. Almost immediately when trying to navigate through the crowd, I kicked something hard and sharp. I felt a shooting pain in my toe and knew it was bad. Sure enough, when I reached a clearing I could see blood all over my white Burks. I tended to the wound initially and cleaned up the bloody mess later when I was home.

Over the past couple days I've applied several band-aids and the pain is beginning to lessen.

Ultimately walking with obstructed vision, darkness, caused me pain and injury. Mostly, I am thankful that this accident didn't involve anyone else. It is one thing to hurt yourself, but hurting someone else with your own negligence can make the pain last for more than a few days. Sometimes even apologizing doesn't lessen the pain in those scenarios.

We can aim to walk in the light everyday. Some days we may stumble. Other days we may fall. Ultimately, we are most blessed in this life and the one to come, if we continue to choose to walk with light every single day. Thankfully we have a Savior who nailed all of our falls from light to the cross. We are forgiven by our God who sent Jesus to save all of His children from the darkness.

1Thessalonians 5: 4- 11

4 “But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
