5/8/24- Peace & Patience

Do you find yourself at peace and with patience often?

Driving to the next town over this morning I was faced with cars all around me on the highway. Not sure what the solution is for cell phones and driving, but it is very frustrating to be driving behind or next to someone who is using their cell phone either texting, pulling up music, or checking emails. Needless to say, the driver is distracted and this impacts my peaceful place. I can lose my patience with these individuals as well.

It's amazing really all that can be accessed through the cell phone. However, if you are driving a vehicle that could harm someone if it comes into contact with their vehicle it makes sense not to use your cell phone while driving. The result could impact too many lives.

Driving is one of the most obvious places where we are challenged with keeping our peace and having patience. Operating a car is a common occurrence that starts many of our days. Our experience behind the wheel can impact our mood and stay with us throughout the day. This is not a benefit to us or others. There are practices we can implement to help us center and focus our mind with peace and the practice of patience.

Carving out time in the morning to read God’s word, study, and pray can help get us on the right path for carrying goodness with us throughout our day. After arriving at our destination and exiting the car, praying to release the tensions that arose on the journey can help center and reclaim that peace. We must put practices into place to help us re-center peace and patience. The bottom line is that we are a constant work in progress.

Just as apostles wrote letters of encouragement to churches that are recorded in the Bible, we need that same encouragement that we can find when we read these letters. We just have to pick up our Bibles and read these words of encouragement. Also, keeping these words top of mind will aid our abilities to re-center, and allow us to focus and share these words of encouragement.

1 Thessalonians 5: 12- 15

12 “Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. 13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. 14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.”
