7/26/24- Reach the Top

Have you ever felt really good about making it to the top of a mountain?

When I was a little girl, we did a lot of hiking. My dad was always planning big adventures for the family. He has loved showing us as much of the world as he’s been able to pack into 18 years of having us under his roof. He is still planning adventures for us and the family even today. Nothing he loves more than planning and seeing this beautiful country and world. Well, I think he does love my Mom a little more than those two things…a little. I’m joking Mom! 🤣

My dad has come by this love of travel and adventures honestly from his Dad and his Dad’s parents. His grandparents came to our country from Bohemia, which is now called the Czech Republic. Papa’s Mom came from Prague and his Papa from a small farm country. They made their way to America by boat and landed in New Orleans.

One summer when I was about 9 years old, we hiked up to the top of a mountain, one of the many I have hiked with my family. When I say we hiked, we all hiked. While trying to decipher which mountain this was, my Dad literally rattled off 10 places we could have been. I’m still not sure if any that he named matched the image I have etched in my mind, so it will remain nameless. Those who hiked that day included my parents, my Papa and both my brothers. However, my brothers and I raced/ran to the top of the mountain, and then after waiting for my parents and Papa to reach the top, we ran back down the mountain.

Having two brothers has probably blessed me with this drive to compete and excel and push myself. I will say, I was super happy to arrive at the top of that mountain that day.

It was a long climb, approximately 5 miles as my memory serves me, of switch backs and gravel pathways. Always up for a challenge I reckon.

These memories of being outside and hiking many of the marvels of God’s beautiful creation has helped ground me throughout my life. I remain in awe and inspired to see as much of this amazing country and world that we live in. It is such an amazing gift for each and everyone of us.

I believe so many of my blessings in this life stem from my admiration of the beauty that surrounds us. This has been passed down to me from my parents and from their parent's prior to them. I have done my best to pass this love of our beautiful world down to my children as well. Along with true faith in an amazing and powerful God, who has sent His son to redeem all of us.

Matthew 17: 20- 21

“So Jesus said to them, ‘Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.’”

It’s Fri-Yay!!
