7/3/24- Reap What You Sow

Do you simply throw seeds on the ground and walk away and wait in anticipation of a bumper crop?

This is not realistic. There are several stages required to make a garden grow, just like life to reach a fulfilling outcome. There must be a plan laid out that will provide guidance so that success may be achieved. We must commit to sticking to the plan.

The initial phase includes prepping, which was discussed yesterday. The middle stage of upkeep and managing the seedlings include providing the necessary water for the seeds to grow into seedlings. This stage also includes picking out the weeds, so they will not over power the desired plant. Then you have the harvest phase when you reap the reward of your labors. However, none of these phases are worthwhile if you lack faith throughout every phase that there will be a reward for your toils.

All these stages are made so much easier with the right tools and supplies. Otherwise, one could spend countless hours working the land to grow food for consumption. This doesn't include keeping the wildlife at bay, so they won't eat all your efforts.

One of my favorite books was, See You In A Hundred Years. A modern couple decided to take on the challenge of living as if they lived in the time period of the 1900s. They even gathered the tools from that time period and acquired a horse and carriage for getting into town and working the land. The woman prepped food for consumption on an old wood-burning stove. They had to grow all their food and prep for the winter with adequate wood to heat the house and operate the stove.

This book was fascinating to me as I use to think I would have liked to live and grow up back in this era. My eyes were opened quickly. I am so thankful that I have grown up in the 21st century.

The most eye-opening lesson I learned from this couple was how to keep the wildlife; rabbits, deer, and chipmunks from consuming their crop. They learned that the smell of urine would ward off the critters and allow them to take the yield of a harvest that would feed them throughout the year. They both had to contribute to a good border around their garden with their own urine.

Just like life in the present the enemy can creep in and take what you have worked hard to obtain. Sometimes simple peace can be robbed by outsiders if you let them. A practice of spending time with God daily through meditation and prayer, along with reading and studying His word can help put a perimeter around your mind, your heart and your thoughts. This work is required for peace to remain and grow and continue to be available to you in life.

Ephesians 6: 13- 17

Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.“
