9/16/24- Follow Through

Why is it important to follow through?

Now that’s a loaded question. Character, responsibility, commitment, seek truth...the list would be endless to that question. And it is exactly what we must do, follow through, and yet so often it is not easy.

We are not guaranteed anything in life. Our character shapes who we establish as self, and the individual we become. There are many factors that impact and shape our character. One that we have very little control of is our environment.

Today our environment not only incorporates where we grow up, but it incoporates computers: i-phones, tables, lap-tops, computers. When I was a child the only technology that really played a part in occupying my time was television, and it was censored and limited to a few programs. Now television is uncensored and accessible to everyone 24-7. Televisions and technolgy is almost inescapable. The one that gets me is the blaring tv at the gas pump.

Our society, country, and world are leaning on these devices entirely too much. The government no longer censors what can be viewed by anyone. Porn and flashed of desireous images are appearing on our devices and our children's phones. My standards as a parent have been impacted with uncontrollable influences of life. Therefore, my ability to fight and take and secure these devices, limited access to my third child has dwindled. These limitations for certain precious hours of restoration for our kids, impact their sleep. Lack of sleep impacts their ability to follow through. As a society, nation, and world, we are getting worn down by devices. They are winning.

As parents, we must hold our children responsible for what is required of them to succeed. That is why being a parent is one of the hardest jobs we will ever be employed with. We cannot be fired. We cannot be demoted. In this day and age, many walk away from the responsibility of parenting, only to compound more on the one parent who remains, to be responsible for everyone and everything. Most parents are stretched thin and caught in the wheel of life: both parents working, paying bills, keeping up with rising costs of everything, health issues, aging parents, and trying to fit in time for our own restoration. Parents are in this equation of life, but we need community and help from others to win this battle. One of Hillary Clinton's famous quotes has often been recited in throughout my life, "It takes a village." And the village becomes more spread out as our children become older.

God is longing to be appointed as the Village Master of our household. He want us to put His word into play daily in our home and belong to a community of His believer at a local church. He wants us to fellowship with other believers. He promises to be by our side through our lives; this sometimes, tiresome journey of life and raising His children. Look to Him for guidance today and everyday. His promise is recorded in the Bible and can be found in Joshua.

Joshua 1:5

"No one will be able to stand against you

all the days of your life.

As I was with Moses,

so I will be with you;

I will never leave you nor forsake you."
